Sutra 12: Abhyasavairagyabhyam tannirodah Translation: Blocking the awareness patterns is accomplished through repeated practice and vairagya.
In order to take back control of the mind, two key qualities are needed. The first is repeated and persistent practice. For me, this means daily practice with an overall upward trajectory even when there are a few dips here and there.
Vairagya is the second quality. It is a mental condition of non-attachment, free from attraction and repulsion. Attraction is usually towards sensual pleasures, and repulsion towards unpleasant situations. In any case, the practitioner maintains an equanimous mind.
