An insightful article about the current approach towards Yoga. The scriptures say nothing about touching your toes, or doing the splits, or getting your heels to the floor in downward dog. This is the mentality of consumerism, wanting more from your body and thinking it will bring happiness. It only creates a bigger ego, the very trait we are trying to destroy.
You don’t always need to feel a stretch. Sometimes you can be content with where you are and simply exist. The Yoga postures we see today were only used after years of sustained meditation as a means to ‘force’ liberation.
Inner awareness and equanimity are the true indicators of progress. Cultivate this and you will be walking the path.
