Thich Nhan Hanh Quote

Maranasati is the buddhist practice for contemplating on death. Let's do some contemplation.

One day, I will perish. There will only be memories of me. Fast forward 20 years, even the very memories of me will cease to exist. All traces of me will disappear.

Is this situation truly sad or is my individual, egoistic mindset sad?

An observer, would say this is the natural course of nature. We can come to accept this by experiencing the impermanence of our physical body through meditation. The meditator moves towards an observer and is able to see universal truths. In the above example, the meditator realises that it is impossible for the situation itself to be sad, the one that applies labels is the one who suffers. Become the observer.
